A second phase of Bucharest's 5th metro is announced

Work on the Eroilor-Drumul Taberei section of the Bucharest metro Line 5, which is the first phase of the project, is to be completed by mid-2017.The second section of the metro line, which will link Eroilor to Iancului, is also in plan and will most likely be completed in 2021. The tender procedure will start up at the beginning of November.
The Ministry of Transport will start the tender procedure which will last probably 6-9 months, then comes the design period. The construction length will be 36 months, so five years in total. It’s possible to have not only the 6th Bucharest line, which will connect the main train station to the airport, but also the expanded 5th line in 2021. For the works of the 5th line EU gives 170 mil euros and could start in 2019.
Meanwhile, Bucharest will have a new metro station, which is the newest stop on Line 4, is to be completed and opened by the end of the year.
